Developing Interior Textiles Utilizing "Triporous™," a Material Born from Rice Husks

Stylus Takisada-Osaka Co., Ltd. (Head office: Naniwa-ku, Osaka; President: Ryuta Taki; hereinafter, Stylus) has developed new interior textiles utilizing "Triporous™" (hereinafter, Triporous), a porous carbon material derived from rice husks developed by Sony Group Corporation (hereinafter, Sony Group). We are pleased to announce that these textiles have been adopted for five office furniture products by Kokuyo Co., Ltd. (Head office: Higashinari-ku, Osaka; Representative Director and President: Hidekuni Kuroda; hereinafter, Kokuyo). These interior textiles will be introduced and released in Kokuyo's five products on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

■Background and Objectives

STYELAM has been developing textiles for various applications, including apparel, by applying TRIPOROUS, which utilizes surplus resources, to the fiber and apparel sector. Now, in expanding into interior applications, we have collaborated with Sony Group and KOKUYO to develop interior textiles suitable for office spaces using TRIPOROUS. These textiles will be adopted for five KOKUYO office furniture products and will be released on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

■What is TRIPOROUS?

TRIPOROUS is a porous carbon material derived from rice husks, developed by Sony Group. Its unique fine structure is expected to lead to a wide range of applications, including water and air purification. When used in fibers, it also exhibits deodorizing and antibacterial effects. By utilizing surplus resources, TRIPOROUS contributes to a circular economy and reduces the environmental impact on the planet.

■Interior textiles using Triporous

The interior textiles used in five KOKUYO products are made by kneading TRIPOROUS into the yarn and weaving it into a jacquard structure without compromising TRIPOROUS's deodorizing and antibacterial functions. By combining TRIPOROUS's original black color with yarns of multiple hues, the textiles express the beauty, richness, and depth of plants and nature. Under the supervision of KOKUYO's designers, the result is a high-quality texture that blends seamlessly with interior spaces.
