Due to climate change and diversifying lifestyles, clothing is now required to have a wider range of functions than ever before. Functionality that supports daily life—such as adapting to temperature fluctuations, providing comfort, and maintaining cleanliness—has become an essential element in textile development.
Since 2017, STYLEM has operated its own apparel fabric functionality evaluation standards, known as “PLUS FUNCTION®.” We grant internal approval across 30 functional categories based on the functional quality test results. The testing methods conform to Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS); if there is no corresponding JIS standard, evaluations are conducted based on international standards such as ISO.
Freshness
FEEL FRESH“Feel fresh” is a category of performance features that deliver a cool sensation upon contact with the skin and release moisture from inside the garment to keep the microclimate comfortable.
Fabrics featuring properties such as a cool touch, moisture permeability, and moisture absorption/release reduce sweat and heat buildup. They are mainly used for shirts, sportswear, underwear, and bedding, enhancing cool comfort in daily life.
Cleanliness
KEEP CLEAN“Keep clean” is a category of performance features that keep clothing hygienic and maintain a comfortable wearing environment.
Functions within this group suppress the growth of bacteria on fibers and reduce odors caused by sweat and sebum. This group also includes properties that provide pollen protection and keep dirt from adhering, while allowing easy removal. Processing techniques that make sweat stains less visible help maintain a clean appearance, bringing comfort and peace of mind to various everyday situations.
Safety and security
PROTECTIVE“Protective” is a category of performance features that keep clothing comfortable to wear while providing protection for the body.
Windproof and waterproof properties shield the body from the external environment and reduce the effects of ultraviolet rays and solar heat. This category also enhances hygiene by suppressing static electricity and reducing specific viruses on fibers, ensuring safe and reliable wear in environments ranging from daily life to outdoor activities.
Easy care
EASY CARE“Easy care” is a category of performance features that make clothing easy to handle and simplify daily maintenance.
In addition to quick-drying and water-repellent properties, this group features crease-resistant finishes after washing and during wear, as well as anti-see-through functions for underwear. Furthermore, it incorporates stretchability for ease of movement and durability that withstands both hand and machine washing. These functions reduce the effort needed for daily care while maintaining a neat look.
Warmth
FEEL WARM“Feel warm” is a category of performance features that retain heat inside clothing and maintain a comfortable temperature.
To enhance thermal retention, this category incorporates various properties, including fabrics that absorb sunlight and convert it into heat, processes that absorb and re-radiate body heat, and fabrics that generate heat by absorbing moisture from the air. These functions regulate body temperature even in cold environments, maintaining comfort across a wide range of situations, from daily life to outdoor activities.
