Addressing Environmental and Social Issues in the Fashion Industry

The fashion industry is recognized as one of the sectors with the most significant impact on the global environment across its entire lifecycle—from raw materials production to manufacturing, transportation, retail, and disposal. In fact, at every stage of the supply chain, various environmental and social issues are evident, including carbon dioxide emissions, the mass disposal of clothing, environmental impact in raw materials production, and human rights issues. These challenges now demand a fundamental transformation toward a sustainable society from the entire industry. STYLEM earnestly confronts this reality and is pursuing a new approach to manufacturing that coexists with the environment—from selecting materials at their source, redesigning manufacturing processes, and designing circularity to regenerate value for after-use.

Initiatives from the field
FARM to WEAR

Sustainable manufacturing requires responsibility right from how raw materials are grown. By engaging directly from the seed and field, we promote “regenerative” practices that restore soil and ecosystems by reassessing cultivation methods and farmland management. By reducing environmental impact and improving working conditions for growers, we are advancing safe and reliable material production with a seamless approach from fields to garments.

ORGANIC FIELD

ORGANIC FIELD is our initiative dedicated to supporting Indian cotton farmers in their transition to organic farming. Through this program, we aim to reduce environmental impact and improve their labor conditions in cotton-growing regions. We actively purchase “Cotton in Conversion”—cotton grown during the three-year transition period toward full organic certification. By doing so, we encourage more farmers to take the first step toward organic practices and help expand the adoption of organic agriculture.

ZQ+

We promote the adoption of ZQ+ wool by resonating with its philosophy, which goes beyond animal welfare and environmental care in wool production to achieve continuous, sustainable improvements such as soil revitalization and reforestation.

supply chain solutions

We are driving digital transformation (DX) through the construction of a digital platform. By providing distinct digital services, we are committed to optimizing business processes and reducing our environmental impact.

PLUS GREEN PROJECT

The PLUS∞GREEN PROJECT is an initiative open to everyone aimed at promoting a lifestyle in which people feel more connected to sustainability through recycling of polyester fibers—including clothing that would otherwise be discarded—and upcycling them into growing mediums for plants.

asanoha

asanoha is partially made from “hemp shives”—a byproduct of hemp fiber harvesting. We also engage in an eco-friendly initiative to collect used asanoha and recycle it into raw material for toilet paper.

Triporous

Triporous is a trademark of the Sony Group Corporation.

Triporous is a naturally derived porous carbon material recycled from surplus rice husks. We are focusing on using it in the textile and apparel sectors, providing textile materials suitable for a variety of applications, including clothing.

JAPAN WOOL PROJECT

We participate in the JAPAN WOOL PROJECT, an initiative that makes effective use of previously underutilized domestic wool under the concept of manufacturing Japanese wool products at Japanese factories using Japanese wool.
